The Guam Department of Education confirmed that a report of a possible weapon at Astumbo Middle School prompted a safety response on campus Monday morning.
According to education officials, school administrators received the report around 11:30 a.m. and immediately activated campus safety protocols while beginning searches and an investigation.
The Guam Police Department was contacted and responded to assist. After reviewing the situation, officers determined the object was a "handheld pellet gun."
As a precaution, a blanket search of the campus was conducted in coordination with the department’s Student Support Services Division, school administrators and School Attendance Officers.
Officials said the situation was brought under control and confirmed that students and staff were safe.
Judith Won Pat, acting superintendent of education, said the department continues to prioritize campus safety and will work closely with law enforcement and school personnel to maintain a secure learning environment.
Education officials encouraged the community to report any safety concerns and reminded students and families that school safety protocols are in place to respond quickly to potential threats.
