Guam Department of Education students will have school on Nov. 3, but instruction will be asynchronous, according to education officials.
The day has been designated as a make-up instructional day to recover instructional loss experienced as a result of Typhoon Champi. However, the call to switch students to distance learning for the school day takes into consideration external factors.
According to the Adequate Education Act, GDOE must provide each public school student with 180-days of instructional learning in a school year. Guam News Network files show, student participation in asynchronous learning methods used during the pandemic and in recent school closures led to concerns over student participation, and impact to student proficiency.
"School administrators and teachers will monitor student participation, assess completed assignments, and document instructional activities and student progress to ensure the day provides meaningful learning and counts toward required instructional time," GDOE said.
