When Guam News Network publishes an error, we correct it promptly, visibly, and honestly. We do not quietly rewrite stories.
How we label changes
- Correction: we published something wrong. The story carries a notice saying what was wrong and what the correct information is.
- Update: the story changed because news developed, not because we erred. Material updates are noted with the time of the change.
- Retraction: in the rare case a story should not have been published, it is withdrawn with a notice explaining why. The record of the retraction remains public.
Correction notices appear at the top of the affected story, with the date and time of the change. If a correction affects the central point of a story or its headline, the notice says so. Every correction is recorded permanently in our editorial system.
Requesting a correction
Email news@guamnewsnetwork.com with the story link and the specific information you believe is wrong, along with any supporting documentation. An editor reviews every request; we aim to respond within two business days, and faster for time-sensitive matters. If we cannot verify a claimed error, we will tell you why.
What we do not do
We do not remove accurate stories because their subjects find them unflattering. Requests to unpublish accurate reporting are reviewed by senior editors and granted only in exceptional circumstances, such as genuine safety risk.
