The University of Guam will celebrate its 58th Charter Day on March 5 with a campuswide event highlighting culture, entertainment and community engagement as part of a monthlong series of activities.
Organizers said the annual celebration, themed “UOG Rising: A New Era of Growth, Service, and Impact,” is the university’s largest community gathering and will include performances, food vendors, campus tours and family-friendly activities. Charter Day commemorates the institution’s founding and the 1968 charter that renamed the Territorial College of Guam as the University of Guam.
School groups are invited to attend field trips and tours designed for younger students during the celebration. Charter Month events begin March 2 with a 2K/5K Run/Walk at the Calvo Field House, followed by “Blue Night: Battle of the Bands” on March 4, where six bands will compete for a championship cup, cash prizes and trophies.
The schedule also includes the President’s Cup team competition, featuring teams of students, employees, alumni and community members competing in events such as dodgeball, basketball, tug of war and volleyball. The competition will conclude later in March with an awards ceremony.
“Charter Day and Charter Month are more than celebrations. They reflect our mission to deliver public value, with the intent to transform lives and advance the communities we serve,” said UOG President Anita Borja Enriquez, who invited the public to participate in the festivities.
