The University of Guam Theatre and Music programs will present Merrily We Roll Along, the Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth, for three nights only on November 20, 21, and 22 at the UOG Fine Arts Theatre. Performances begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
The production highlights the creative talents of UOG students, many of whom are performing Sondheim’s complex score for the first time. Set in the 1960s and 1970s, the musical unfolds in reverse — tracing the life of a successful but disillusioned composer back through the pivotal moments of his career. The story explores friendship, ambition, and the bittersweet nature of success. “Our students are discovering just how powerful and timeless Sondheim’s work truly is,” said Dr. Troy McVey, UOG Professor of Theatre.
Audiences can catch a preview performance at Micronesia Mall’s Center Court on October 25 at 11 a.m., featuring select musical numbers from the show. The cast includes Fine Arts seniors Roben Paulino as Charley Kringas, Monica Cosico as Mary Flynn, and Alexandre Villaflor as Franklin Shepard. Community member Don Anthony Tayco joins the ensemble as an understudy, alongside a full cast of UOG students.
Tickets will be sold at the door (cash only): $25 for general admission, $20 for UOG faculty and manåmko’, and $10 for youth ages 12 to 18. Admission is free for UOG students with valid ID.
