University of Guam President Anita Borja Enriquez reflected on the significance of the moment during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Student Success Center, calling it a defining milestone for the university, its students, and the region. Enriquez acknowledged local leaders, past and present governors, university officials, education partners, donors, and students who helped bring the long-awaited project to fruition.
She said the new center represents UOG’s commitment to student success and aligns with the university’s strategic goal of ensuring every student receives guided support throughout their academic journey. The facility will serve more than 3,000 matriculated students from Guam and across the region, offering centralized access to student services, academic advising, and support programs under one roof.
Enriquez highlighted philanthropist Dr. Lucio Tan, whose investment she described as transformative, noting his belief that education is the most powerful tool for social mobility. Dr. Tan’s daughter said the building is dear to her father and noted it would be essential to UOG students’ success.
Calling the center “more than a facility,” Enriquez said it is a promise that students will feel supported, welcomed, and assured they belong at the university. She emphasized that when students thrive, Guam and the broader region thrive with them, concluding that the center stands as a symbol of collaboration, perseverance, and shared vision for the future.
