The University of Guam is deepening its academic and cultural ties with Wakayama University in Japan’s Kansai region, building on a memorandum of understanding signed in September 2024. Representatives from UOG’s Global Learning and Engagement Office visited Wakayama University on Aug. 8-9 to explore new areas of collaboration, including faculty research exchanges and joint initiatives in international tourism — a field in which Wakayama University offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
Since the agreement was signed, Wakayama University has sent 40 students to Guam to participate in UOG’s English Adventure Program. UOG Global Learning and Engagement Director Carlos Taitano said the visit was aimed at turning the partnership “from paper to practice” by identifying concrete opportunities for students and faculty to work together. UOG currently manages 125 MOUs with institutions across Asia and the Pacific, including in Korea, Japan, China, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
