Three Guam educators have been named state finalists for the 2025 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest honor for K-12 STEM educators, according to the Guam Department of Education (GDOE).
Sen. Vincent V.A. Borja, chair of the Committee on Education, formally recognized the finalists in a legislative ceremony: Colette Beausoliel of John F. Kennedy High School for science, and Elaine Cortez of Simon Sanchez High School and Mark Villaverde of Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School for mathematics. The recognition was attended by GDOE leadership, school administrators, colleagues, family members and friends.
The PAEMST program is administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Each year, the program honors teachers who demonstrate instructional excellence and leadership in STEM education across the nation.
GDOE said the recognition reflects not only the accomplishments of the individual educators but also Guam’s dedication to preparing students for future challenges through innovative, world-class teaching.
