Three Guam residents completed their apprenticeship training this week and were recognized during a Guam Contractors Association luncheon, the Department of Labor announced Thursday. The graduates earned certificates in operating engineering, heavy equipment operation and electrical work as the island continues to face rising demand for skilled labor.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero praised the apprentices, saying their achievements demonstrate Guam’s ability to develop its own talent. “Their success shows that Guam doesn’t need to look elsewhere for skilled talent — we can build it right here at home,” she said. “With every apprentice we graduate, we strengthen our workforce and secure a more resilient future.”
Among the graduates was Nathaniel Chaco of Pacific Rim Constructors, who shifted careers after five years working as a cook. Christopher Siguenza of Infratech International completed his training in heavy equipment operation, and Jaynard White, a 20-year employee at Docomo Pacific, earned his certification as an electrician after first encouraging his staff to pursue training. “I did the work and now I have the paper to back it up,” White said.
Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio and Labor Director David Dell’Isola said the program proves apprenticeship is a viable pathway to stable, skilled careers on island. Dell’Isola encouraged more residents and companies to participate, noting that thousands of local workers have already benefited from apprenticeship opportunities.
