Early voting turnout for Guam’s Nov. 3 general election has surpassed the total recorded during the August primary election, according to Guam Election Commission Program Coordinator Thomas San Agustin.
As of Tuesday, about 5,900 voters had cast ballots during early voting, compared with slightly more than 5,000 during the primary, San Agustin told Guam News Network.
“So far, turnout has been good,” San Agustin said during an interview at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with about four hours remaining before early voting closed at 6 p.m.
Early voting began Oct. 8 and initially averaged about 400 voters a day, San Agustin said. Turnout dipped following the storm but increased to about 1,069 voters on Tuesday.
“But of course after the storm that trend kind of took a little bit of a dip. But just as of yesterday, we did about 1,069, so you know, we're seeing a good trend,” he said.
San Agustin said he anticipated similar turnout Wednesday but declined to predict the final number before early voting closed.
He encouraged residents who had not yet voted to cast their ballots on Election Day, Nov. 3. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“If you're unable to come down here to the vote center today, please come out and vote,” San Agustin said. “November 3 holds open from 7 a.m., and they close at 8 p.m., and remember, your vote is your voice.”
