The Leon Guerrero–Tenorio Administration will break ground on the long-awaited new Simon Sanchez High School on Nov. 24, marking a major step forward for public education in northern Guam. The ceremony, which includes the full demolition of the aging Yigo campus, is scheduled for 11 a.m. and is open to the community. Officials say the project ushers in a new era for the Sharks family after years of delays.
The project follows a comprehensive evaluation under Public Law 37-22 and the MA KÅHAT Act, culminating in the selection of Core Tech International Corporation to build the new campus. “This has been a long time coming, and I am proud that our administration is the one making real, tangible progress,” Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero said. She added that the new campus will reflect the “spirit, talent, and potential” of Simon Sanchez students.
Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio said the milestone represents transformation after years of planning. “So many students, alumni, and their families have waited for this day,” he said. “Our administration was determined to do this important initiative right, and we are honored to share this moment with the community.” The new campus design includes 87 classrooms across three wings, a full-sized gym, a modern cafeteria, a JROTC classroom, and a new auditorium.
The project also includes upgraded infrastructure, expanded parking, improved access roads, and open spaces for recreation. Once completed, the school will accommodate up to 2,000 students. Officials say the campus will offer a safer, more modern learning environment built for “today’s learners and tomorrow’s possibilities.”
