Senators Jesse Lujan (R-Guam), V. Anthony Ada (R-Guam), and Sabrina Salas Matanane (R-Guam) will hold a Joint Oversight Hearing on Friday, October 24, at 9:00 AM. The hearing will take place in the Public Hearing Room at the Guam Congress Building in Hagatna.
Senator Lujan is the Chairperson of the Committee on Transportation, Tourism, Customs, Utilities, and Federal & Foreign Affairs. Senator Ada is the Chairperson of the Committee on Land, Environment, Housing, Agriculture, Parks and Infrastructure. Senator Salas Matanane is the Chairperson of the Committee on Health & Veterans Affairs.
The hearing will focus on the Dieldrin contamination in Guam's water supply. Discussions will include an assessment of interagency coordination and response efforts, as well as a review of the public health, environmental, and infrastructure implications of the contamination.
Representatives from the Guam Waterworks Authority, Guam Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Public Health and Social Services have been invited to present. Miguel Bordallo, General Manager of GWA, will present data on Dieldrin detection, source identification, and remediation efforts. Michelle Lastimoza, Administrator of GEPA, will provide an overview of environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and interagency coordination. Theresa Arriola, Director of DPHSS, will discuss public health risk assessments, community advisories, and response measures.
