Retired U.S. Ambassador Chantale Wong, an Academy of Our Lady of Guam alumna, returned to the island July 13 for a meet-and-greet hosted by the University of Guam School of Engineering and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).
During the visit, Wong shared her education and professional journey with university students, alumni and engineering professionals.
UOG said Wong's discussions highlighted the importance of scholarships, mentorship and public service in her journey "from growing up on Guam to becoming a structural engineer, diplomat and U.S. ambassador."
Wong attended high school on Guam while living with her aunt, uncle and cousin. She earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a Master of Science in environmental engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1982, followed by a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School.
Wong's career spans global diplomacy, environmental policy and financial leadership. Her official website describes her as a "visionary leader dedicated to advancing inclusive governance, sustainable development, and public service" who "continues to inspire transformative change across communities and institutions worldwide."
Her drive is fueled by the belief "that leadership must reflect the diversity it serves," according to her website.
