The Department of Public Health and Social Services distributed food commodities to 3,025 families island-wide in the days following Typhoon Sinlaku, the agency announced Friday.
The effort was led by DPHSS's Division of Homelessness Assistance and Poverty Prevention through the Emergency Food Assistance Program, a federally supported initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Five distribution sites were established across the island, including locations in Dededo at Micronesia Mall and the Northern Region Community Health Center, Yigo at Our Lady of Lourdes Social Hall, Inalåhan at the Community Center and Hagåtña at the Governor's Complex Adelup Breezeway.
Partners supporting the operation included the Guam Green Growth Conservation Corps, AmeriCorps, Guahan Academy Charter School, the AmeriCorps University of Guam Volunteer Center, the Guam Police Department and village mayor staff.
"In times of hardship, it is the strength of our community that carries us forward," Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero said.
DPHSS Director Theresa Arriola said the response moved with urgency and intention. "Families were facing real loss. Every effort was made to meet that moment with care and action."
DPHSS said this phase of typhoon food distribution has concluded. Ongoing food commodity support will resume through coordination with village mayors.
