Forensic science professionals, law enforcement officers and legal experts from across the Pacific gathered Wednesday for the opening of the 3rd Regional Forensic Science Symposium at Guam Community College. The three-day event runs through Friday in the Multipurpose Auditorium on the Mangilao campus.
Presented by Friends of the Crime Lab Inc., the symposium aims to strengthen forensic capabilities in the region through professional training, research exchange and collaboration. The event also serves as a workforce development opportunity for students in GCC’s Criminal Justice, Forensic Science and Public Safety programs, who are participating in workshops and discussions with experts in real-world forensic investigations.
This year’s symposium features keynote speaker Anjali Ranadive, a forensic DNA expert and attorney known for her work in criminal justice and forensic ethics. Ranadive will present on advances in DNA technology and the importance of ethical standards in forensic evidence collection and interpretation.
Sessions throughout the symposium cover topics including crime scene investigation, digital forensics, laboratory safety and the role of ethics in criminal justice. Organizers say the event underscores GCC’s ongoing commitment to career-focused education and building partnerships that support public safety on Guam and across the region.
