The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Guam is currently monitoring Invest Area 96W, which is classified as a “medium” system by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, according to NWS Meteorologist Edwin Montvila.

The system is expected to consolidate and move toward the Mariana Islands over the next several days. In an interview with Guam News Network, Montvila noted that it could bring heavy rainfall and wind impacts ranging from a low-end tropical storm to a low-end typhoon somewhere between southern Guam and north of Saipan. Peak rain and wind conditions are currently expected from Saturday night into Sunday.

Island residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, such as canopies and tarps, and be prepared to shelter in place if necessary. Travelers should check directly with their airlines regarding potential flight disruptions or schedule changes as conditions develop over the coming days.
