The Guam Police Department confirmed that no arrests have been made in the fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred in Latte Heights on Tuesday.
According to police, a vehicle was traveling on Route 26 when it struck a female minor pedestrian who entered the roadway. The minor was transported to Guam Regional Medical City, where she was pronounced deceased at 8:32 a.m. the same day by Dr. Sarah Hale-Wien.
The minor’s identity has not been released by police. The name of the driver involved in the crash also has not been released.
Analista pointed to the investigation process and the need for probable cause to be established before making an arrest.
“Police cannot arrest someone just because they were involved in a crash. Officers must gather sufficient, verified evidence - such as blood-alcohol test results, reconstruction data, or direct proof of reckless behavior - to establish probable cause that a specific crime was committed. Serious crashes often require specialized accident reconstructionists and toxicology reports from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office to complete the investigation,” he said.
The crash occurred Oct. 6 at around 7:50 a.m. near the Old Latte Heights Store in Mangilao.
