A female minor was taken to the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority for potential exposure to an “unknown powdery substance,” according to the Guam Fire Department.
GFD spokesperson Nick Garrido said units responded to the parking lot of St. Anthony Church in Tamuning at 3:13 p.m. for the reported substance.
“GFD’s Hazmat Team was activated and conducted an initial assessment. The Guam National Guard’s CST has been activated to assist with further assessment and identification of the reported substance,” Garrido said.
According to GFD, two individuals were reportedly in the “immediate vicinity” and were “potentially” exposed to the unknown substance.
“One female minor was transported to GMH for medical evaluation as a precautionary measure,” Garrido said.
Officials are working to confirm the presence, identity and nature of the reported substance.
“Further assessment will be conducted by CST to determine whether a substance is present and identify any potential hazards,” Garrido said.
Garrido confirmed that the parking lot where the incident occurred is closed off. Meanwhile, church activities have not been interrupted.
