Matson has reaffirmed its partnership with the University of Guam through a $165,000 in-kind shipping commitment, annual student scholarships, and event sponsorship, the university announced.
The contribution, presented on Aug. 14 by Matson Chairman and CEO Matt Cox and his executive team, will cover the transport of equipment and furnishings for four new UOG facilities: the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Student Success Center, School of Engineering Building, Margaret Perez Hattori-Uchima School of Health Nursing Annex, and the Water and Environmental Research Institute Building. These additions are expected to strengthen student learning, research, and collaboration.
Matson also pledged $5,000 annually in scholarships from 2025 through 2027 and will serve as a $10,000 sponsor for the UOG Endowment Foundation’s Tumua comedy show fundraiser on Nov. 1. Proceeds will benefit student scholarships under the “G is for Giving” campaign. In recognition of its support, UOG President Anita Borja Enriquez presented Matson with a Tulos Mo’na plaque, honoring the company’s role in advancing higher education and opportunity in Guam and Micronesia.
“Matson’s support reflects its confidence in the potential of our students and the role of the University in shaping Guam’s future,” Enriquez said. Cox added that Matson’s tradition of community support is aligned with its employees’ commitment to improving quality of life in the region. The company also continues to mentor UOG students through its Ambassador Program, which connects academic learning to workforce development.
