Residents in parts of Malesso woke up on Christmas Eve, December 24, to find their homes flooded following heavy rains on Dec. 23 and 24. While many prepared for Christmas Day, those in Malesso focused on cleaning up mud and water damage and working to salvage what they could.
Extensive flooding has been documented in photos and videos circulating widely on social media, WhatsApp, and submitted directly to Guam News. One resident outside the impacted area told Guam News, "we are okay," but noted that her cousin woke up to the floodwaters at 4:30 AM on Dec. 24.
Questions and requests for comment regarding the flooding were sent Dec. 26, to the Malesso Mayor’s Office, the Department of Public Works, and the Office of the Governor of Guam.
