Sen. Jesse A. Lujan on Friday condemned an armed robbery at Guam Premier Outlets, calling it an unacceptable act of violence that threatens public safety and the island’s tourism recovery.
According to Guam Police Department spokesperson Norman Analista, the robbery occurred around 3:33 p.m. in the GPO parking lot. Three male suspects, allegedly armed, seized belongings from several individuals and fled the area. No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
Lujan, who chairs the Legislature’s Committee on Transportation, Tourism, Customs, Utilities, and Federal and Foreign Affairs, said his office immediately coordinated with the Korean Consulate and representatives of the Korean tourism industry following the incident.
“Recovering our tourism industry is a community effort, and we have no room for violent crime that threatens our residents, our workers, and our visitors,” Lujan said in a statement. “Guam must be a place where families can shop, dine, and enjoy our island without fear.”
He noted that a firearm was reportedly pointed at multiple family members, including a 10-month-old baby.
“That is absolutely unacceptable,” Lujan said. “This is not the Guam I grew up on, and this is not the Guam I want to leave behind for our children.”
Lujan also thanked members of the Korean community who assisted the victims in the immediate aftermath of the robbery, specifically acknowledging John Ko of the Korean Tourism Association for demonstrating inafa’maolek and the Håfa Adai spirit.
The senator praised the Guam Police Department for its response and urged anyone with information to assist authorities. He also expressed confidence that the Office of the Attorney General will pursue charges.
“I am confident Attorney General Douglas Moylan will prosecute these offenders to the fullest extent of the law,” Lujan said.
