The Guam Department of Labor is cautioning residents about a scam circulating on Facebook that falsely advertises grant opportunities under the department’s name. Officials said the posts are not tied to any legitimate government program and urge the public to remain vigilant.
The fraudulent messages appear to come from unofficial pages or individuals posing as government representatives, often using the Department of Labor’s name or similar wording to seem authentic. They claim users are eligible for federal or labor-related grants, but GDOL Director David Dell’Isola stressed these offers are fake. “The Guam Department of Labor does not offer any kind of individual grant assistance through Facebook,” Dell’Isola said.
Officials are advising anyone who encounters such posts to report them to the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 671-475-2720, especially if they’ve been contacted directly or asked for sensitive information. Providing personal details could expose residents to identity theft or financial fraud.
The department reminds the public to seek accurate information only through its verified website, dol.guam.gov, or by calling GDOL directly at 671-475-7000/1. “We want to make it absolutely clear that these messages are not coming from our office,” Dell’Isola added.
