The Guam Department of Labor will hold a series of Friday town hall meetings to inform parents and high school students about enrollment opportunities for its Year-Round In-School Youth Program.
The meetings will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at four locations: Aug. 15 at the Department of Parks and Recreation, Aug. 22 at the Hågat Community Center, Aug. 29 at the Dededo Senior Center, and Sept. 5 at the Yigo Senior Center. GDOL staff will provide details on program benefits, answer questions, and help families determine eligibility. Applications will be available on-site, and attendees are encouraged to bring all required documentation.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero said the program is designed to help students prepare for their careers while still in school, while Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio emphasized the personal engagement these town halls will provide in driving recruitment. The program offers high school juniors and seniors work experience, training, and support services during the academic year in industries such as automotive, hospitality, culinary, and information technology.
“This two-year program begins in the student’s junior year and it’s an investment that’s well worth it. It’s a proven success,” GDOL Director David Dell’Isola said, noting that many graduates are hired by their internship employers. “If you are in the 11th grade or a parent of a junior, we encourage you to join us at one of the upcoming town hall meetings.”
