Judith Guthertz began her tenure as the Guam Community College's 10th president on July 1, with education officials calling her selection a "historic milestone."
The presidential search and selection process took eight months to complete as officials vetted 11 candidates who submitted their application for the position. As president, Guthertz will lead the college into its next chapter, GCC said in a release noting that the GCC will soon be celebrating its 50th year of service to the community.
"Guthertz's extensive resume of leadership in education, law enforcement and as a Senator in the Guam Legislature will be critical to lead the way in workforce development for Guam and our region," GCC Board Chairman Carlo Leon Guerrero said.
Guthertz experience spans over 30 years in higher education, public administration, public policy and classroom instruction. GCC recognized that she has worked as a professor at the University of Guam, a secondary education instructor with the Guam Department of Education and currently serves as the Chairperson of the Guam Education Board.
"Throughout her career, Dr. Guthertz has remained deeply committed to student achievement,
accreditation, curriculum development, and ethical leadership in public administration," officials said noting they look forward to continuing GCC's momentum in expanding academic offerings, strengthening workforce partnerships, enhancing student support services and maintaining accreditation standards under her leadership.
"Together, we will continue to strengthen that legacy while embracing new opportunities for innovation, collaboration and student achievement," Guthertz said.
