Carolyn E. Haruo, a science teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, has been named Guam Teacher of the Year 2027, the Guam Department of Education announced Wednesday.
Haruo was selected for her commitment to student achievement, innovative classroom instruction and dedication to inspiring students. She was chosen from a group of finalists that included Jonnavie Abaya of Simon Sanchez High School and Madrid C. Borja of L.P. Untalan Middle School.
"Carolyn E. Haruo represents the very best of Guam's educators, and we are honored to recognize her as the Guam Teacher of the Year 2027," said Superintendent Dr. Judith T. Won Pat. "Her dedication to students, passion for teaching, and commitment to educational excellence make her a deserving recipient of this honor."
Won Pat also recognized the other finalists and semifinalists. "While only one educator can be named Guam Teacher of the Year, every finalist and semifinalist is a winner in their own right," she said.
GDOE thanked program partners including Bank of Guam, Cars Plus, the Foundation for Public Education, KUAM and the GTOY Committee for their support.
