The Guam Department of Education High School Bands Division will host its first Schools of Rock Showcase on March 21 at the Tiyan High School gymnasium.
Presented by PBS Guam and hosted by Tiyan High School, the event will feature rock bands from several island high schools performing in a live showcase beginning at 5 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.
Participating bands include Variso from George Washington High School, Golden Standard from John F. Kennedy High School, the rock band from Okkodo High School, the combo band from Simon Sanchez High School and Apollo’s Titans from Tiyan High School.
Proceeds from the event will support school band programs, including funding for new instruments, repairs and other equipment needs.
“On behalf of the Schools of Rock team, we are excited to host this first ever event for our high school demographic,” said Amanda Bateman with the John F. Kennedy High School Band. “It offers a chance for our young musicians to work with professional sound technicians and lighting designers, bringing them a high-end rock show environment.”
Advance tickets are $5 through participating schools or band members, and $8 at the door.
