Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero has declared Monday, July 20, a government holiday in observance of Guam’s 82nd Liberation Day.
The governor made the declaration through Executive Order 2026-05, stating the holiday will provide the people of Guam with additional time to commemorate the liberation of the island, reflect upon the sacrifices made for the freedom of the community and celebrate the resilience and unity demonstrated by the people of Guam through hardships caused by war and natural disasters.
The holiday precedes the 82nd anniversary of the island’s liberation by the U.S. military on July 21.
“All executive departments and agencies of the Government of Guam shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on July 20, 2026,” the governor states in the executive order, signed July 15.
