Ahead of the Memorial Day ceremony, Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio on Monday called on residents to honor the men and women who died in military service to Guam and the United States.
"On Memorial Day, we pause as an island and as a nation to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to Guam and the United States of America," the administration said.
The statement acknowledged Guam's distinct connection to military sacrifice, noting the island "knows the cost of war, the weight of loss, and the strength required to endure" — a reference to the territory's history of combat during World War II and its continued contributions to U.S. armed forces.
The governor and lieutenant governor extended condolences to the families of fallen service members, affirming that "Guam will never forget the service and sacrifice of those they loved."
The administration closed with blessings and gratitude telling the community "Un Dångkolo Na Si Yu'os Ma'åse.'"
Guam has one of the highest rates of military enlistment per capita in the United States. Memorial Day is observed nationally on the last Monday of May.
