Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero on Thursday announced taxpayer protections and accommodations following delays in the issuance of 2025 real property tax statements, directing the Department of Revenue and Taxation to waive penalties and late fees for qualifying taxpayers.
According to the administration, the delay stemmed from a complex technical issue involving DRT’s property tax assessment and billing software. Officials said the issue has now been resolved and the department is moving forward with finalizing the 2025 real property tax rolls.
The governor said the Real Property Tax Roll is expected to be finalized within the next few weeks, after which statements will be mailed to property owners. DRT will issue a follow-up public notice once the Board of Equalization certifies the tax roll and statements are released.
Leon Guerrero also directed DRT to waive penalties, late fees and interest for qualifying taxpayers and to make any necessary adjustments once updated valuations are completed.
In addition, the governor ordered that taxpayers be given the same customary amount of time to pay their real property taxes as they would have received under a normal billing cycle, saying no taxpayer will be penalized or disadvantaged because of the administrative delay.
The Office of the Governor and DRT said they will continue providing public updates on payment options, deadlines and taxpayer accommodations. Residents are encouraged to monitor DRT’s official website and communication channels for additional information.
