The Guam Economic Development Authority (GEDA) celebrated its 60th anniversary on October 18 at the Hyatt Regency Guam, honoring six decades of leadership in shaping the island’s economic future under the theme, “60 Years of Building Guam’s Economy: Honoring Our Legacy; Investing in Tomorrow.”
The milestone event gathered government officials, business leaders, and community partners to reflect on GEDA’s contributions since its founding in 1965. Administrator Christina D. Garcia opened the evening by highlighting the Authority’s ongoing mission to build a “stronger, more inclusive, and resilient Guam economy,” while expressing gratitude for the continued support of the Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration. “This milestone is so much more than just a number,” Garcia said. “It represents six decades of people working together… to help Guam grow and thrive.”
GEDA received multiple honors during the event, including a proclamation from Acting Governor Josh Tenorio, a Congressional Certificate of Special Recognition from Delegate James Moylan, and Resolution No. 108-38 from the 38th Guam Legislature. Acting Governor Tenorio commended GEDA’s ability to foster innovation through adversity, saying, “GEDA has shown time and again that when faced with challenge, our island comes together, innovate, and emerge stronger than before.”
Since its establishment, GEDA has played a central role in attracting investment, supporting businesses, and financing infrastructure to strengthen Guam’s economy. As the Authority looks to the future, Garcia reaffirmed GEDA’s commitment to “build a Guam that is innovative, inclusive, and open for business,” while Tenorio emphasized new opportunities in digital innovation, sustainable industries, aquaculture, and healthcare.
