The Guam Department of Education announced Wednesday that students in every elementary, middle, and high school will soon take part in new assessments aimed at strengthening CHamoru language learning. The initiative, called the Sensuran CHamoru Priority Standards, Skills, and Topics (PSSTs) Pre-Test, will be administered across the island beginning next week.
CHamoru teachers will deliver the pre-test from Sept. 17 to Sept. 24, with results guiding classroom instruction and cultural programming throughout the school year, officials said. A follow-up post-test is scheduled for spring 2026, with specific dates to be announced by email.
The assessments were developed through a collaboration between GDOE’s CHamoru Studies and Special Projects Division and local educators. Officials described the effort as part of a broader push to preserve and promote the island’s native language and culture for future generations.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all CHamoru teachers and school principals for their unwavering support and commitment,” the department said in its announcement. “Gi fino’ CHamoru, sumen dangolo na Si Yu’os Ma’ase’!”
