The Guam Department of Education confirmed July 28 that all 38 public schools are on track to open Aug. 10.
The department acknowledged that its internal School Readiness Status and Progress Tracker had raised concerns from parents, teachers and the Guam Education Board about campus readiness ahead of the new school year.
"Our team is working around the clock completing inspections, finalizing schedules, and addressing typhoon-related repairs to make sure every campus is ready to welcome students. We hear the concerns raised by our Board and our community, and we are committed to clear, accurate communication as we finish preparations for the new school year," Superintendent Judith Won Pat said.
GDOE reiterated that the tracker is a "working" document providing an "in-progress snapshot of preparations — not a final assessment of whether campuses will be ready to open."
"Readiness figures update weekly as principals and staff complete inspections, finalize master schedules, and address facility needs following recent typhoon activity," GDOE said.
During the July 24 board meeting, Deputy Superintendent Educational Support and Community Learning Jackie Quitugua confirmed that GDOE "has taken additional steps to improve the accuracy of this reporting, including requiring principals to personally verify their campus data before submission."
The process revealed "inconsistencies" in how information was being entered and reported. The department said corrective measures are ongoing.
