The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) has announced official school calendars for the next four academic years, from School Year (SY) 2026–2027 through SY 2029–2030. The calendars, approved by the Guam Education Board (GEB), detail key academic dates including semester start and end periods, holidays, professional development days, and parent-teacher conferences.
The approved schedules aim to promote consistency across Guam’s public schools and support alignment with the Guam Public School System’s strategic plan. GDOE stated the multi-year approach allows for better planning while ensuring operations remain in step with instructional goals and financial management needs.
A gradual shift in start dates is set to take place over the next several years to minimize financial disruptions. The 2026–2027 school year will begin on August 5, 2026, followed by incremental adjustments: August 9, 2027, for SY 2027–2028; August 11, 2028, for SY 2028–2029; and August 15, 2029, for SY 2029–2030. Each transition year includes a three-to-four-day gap at the start of the academic year, which will not be paid workdays for teachers.
Teachers opting to receive pay over 26 pay periods are encouraged to plan ahead for these non-paid days, as the default salary schedule distributes earnings across 21 pay periods. For more information, GDOE advises employees and parents to contact their school administrators.
