Tiyan High School students will return to traditional in-person instruction at their home campus Monday, while Simon Sanchez High School students will remain on a double-session schedule with Okkodo High School.

The Guam Department of Education made the decision after “careful consideration and extensive consultation with key stakeholders, GEB, and external partners, including the Department of Public Health and Social Services, food service providers, Core Tech and the Department of Public Works.”

GDOE said the decision reflects its commitment to minimizing further loss of instructional time while ensuring the necessary operational arrangements are in place to support students, faculty and staff.

Factors considered in determining whether Tiyan High students could return to their home campus included the readiness of essential services, such as transportation and food services, as well as facility inspections.

According to GDOE, Simon Sanchez High School students will remain at Okkodo High School on a double-session schedule until December 2026.

“Our priority is to ensure that students return to the classroom as soon as reasonably possible to prevent further disruption to their education. We appreciate the flexibility and commitment of our faculty, staff and community partners in making this transition possible,” GDOE said.

The department said it will continue coordinating with school administrators and service providers to facilitate an orderly transition and ensure students and employees receive the necessary support.

The return to Tiyan High follows months of maintenance and repairs after the campus failed a sanitary inspection three days into the school year. The school passed a re-inspection earlier this month with zero demerits, allowing GDOE to reopen the campus for school operations.
