The Guam Community College Board of Trustees on Monday reviewed campus improvement projects, workforce programs and graduation preparations while also acknowledging the completion of the presidential search process.
During the meeting, GCC officials reported the college had received approximately $12.7 million as of May 7 to support operations, including funding from the General Fund and federal sources. Officials said the amount represents about 81% of GCC’s requested budget allocation.
Administrators highlighted several workforce development initiatives, including free summer “Work Ready” boot camps in building maintenance and truck driving. The building maintenance program allows participants to earn up to 13 college credits in electrical, plumbing and carpentry trades, while the truck driving program prepares students for commercial driver’s license testing.
Board members also received updates on major campus construction and renovation projects, including repairs to the multipurpose auditorium water system, upgrades to the Culinary Arts and Baking Center, Building B renovations, solar parking infrastructure and campuswide air conditioning replacements.
Officials announced GCC’s commencement ceremony will be held Friday at the University of Guam Field House, with 324 students graduating. Degrees and certifications include associate degrees, certificates, GED credentials and apprenticeship completions.
The board also highlighted the success of GCC nursing graduates, announcing 12 graduates from the RN program obtained licensure, with several already employed at healthcare facilities including Guam Memorial Hospital and Guam Regional Medical City.
Near the close of the meeting, trustees congratulated Judith Guthertz following work completed by the presidential screening committee and four board votes in her favor as the next GCC president.
