Guam Community College (GCC) marked another milestone Friday morning with the ribbon cutting of its newly renovated and expanded Building B, now home to the college’s Student Success Center. The event gathered island leaders, including senators, board members, and Archbishop Ryan Jimenez, who blessed the facility and its future occupants.
GCC President Dr. Mary Okada expressed gratitude to the Legislature and administration for continued financial support, highlighting the $3 million contribution that made the renovation possible without incurring debt. “This building serves as the main artery to our campus where student learning, innovation, and success begins,” Okada said, emphasizing the college’s mission to advance workforce and technical education for Micronesia.
Acting Governor Josh Tenorio reflected on his own time as a GCC student, praising the institution’s legacy in vocational education and calling for the revival of a full-time vocational high school. “The time is right for us to move into this direction,” Tenorio said, noting Guam’s need for a skilled local workforce amid record-low unemployment.
Archbishop Jimenez concluded the ceremony with a blessing, praying for success and guidance for all who will study and work in the new facility. GCC leaders also announced that the college will hold another ribbon cutting on Nov. 25 for its new Culinary Arts and Baking Center, signaling continued growth and investment in Guam’s educational future.
