The Guam Department of Agriculture’s Forestry and Soil Resources Division (FSRD) joined the Inalåhan Mayor’s Office, government partners, and community organizations to celebrate Arbor Day 2025 with a tree planting event at the Gådaos Sagan Humugånada Playground and Park.
The event, hosted by Mayor Anthony Chargualaf, featured the planting of 15 native and fruit trees and highlighted the importance of community collaboration in protecting Guam’s natural resources. “On behalf of the Inalåhan Mayor's Office, we extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated teams from Forestry, the Guam Fire Department, the Department of Agriculture, and the Air Force 36th Security Forces for their exceptional support and cooperation,” Chargualaf said.
Volunteers included representatives from the University of Guam Sea Grant and Center for Island Sustainability GROW Corps and KUPU Corps, the American Red Cross, Smart Trees Pacific, and local community members. In addition to the tree planting, FSRD distributed 60 copies of “The Natural Inquirer: The Pacific Islands Edition” to the Inalåhan Mayor’s Office for high school science programs, and donated two smoke alarm installation kits valued at $1,400 to support the American Red Cross Guam Chapter’s “Sound the Alarm” initiative.
FSRD Chief Christine Camacho Fejeran said. “Plant your tree today and help us convert fire-prone invasive grasslands to forested lands.”
This year’s theme, “Green Spaces, Shared Places: Enhancing Our Forest Together,” emphasizes shared responsibility in sustaining Guam’s green spaces. Throughout October, DOAG and its partners will host additional events, including tree plantings, fire prevention activities, and educational outreach.
