The Guam Education Board (GEB) announced that five candidates have advanced to the next phase of the selection process for the position of Superintendent of the Guam Department of Education (GDOE). The announcement follows a weeklong review of applications by the GEB Superintendent Search Committee, held from September 29 through October 3, 2025.
The Search Committee — chaired by Maria Gutierrez and comprised of board members Ron McNinch, Felicitas Angel, Judi Guthertz, and GDOE Human Resources Administrator Katherine Ada — reviewed seven applications for the position. Five applicants were found eligible to move forward, while two were deemed non-compliant due to incomplete documentation or failure to meet minimum requirements. Those applicants have until October 10 to appeal the committee’s decision.
The five candidates proceeding in the process are Dr. Barbara Adamos, Acting Superintendent of Educational Support and Community Learning; Ms. Erika Cruz, Acting Principal of J.P. Torres Success Academy; Mr. Kenneth Perez, former Deputy Superintendent of Educational Support and Community Learning; Mr. Joseph Sanchez, current Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction; and Dr. Judith Wonpat, former Acting Superintendent of GDOE.
Interviews for eligible candidates are scheduled for Saturday, October 11, and will be conducted by the Guam Education Board. A “Here Are Your Applicants” press conference will follow on Monday, October 13, at 12 p.m. at the GDOE Central Gallery. The event will be livestreamed on the GDOE YouTube channel.
