The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has obligated $751,714.97 to the Guam Department of Education (GDOE) to support repairs to facilities damaged by Super Typhoon Mawar.
Guam Delegate James Moylan said the funding is provided under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. Six GDOE schools will be able to use the funding to repair building exteriors, interiors, exterior sites, contents and other damaged components.
"The combined value of the approved projects is $835,238.81, with FEMA covering 90% of eligible costs," Moylan said.
The funding comes three years after Mawar struck Guam. Since then, the island has experienced two additional typhoons — Sinlaku and Bavi.
"Today's announcement is another important step toward rebuilding our communities and ensuring our schools remain safe, resilient, and ready to serve our students. At the same time, I recognize that many families impacted by Typhoons Bavi and Sinlaku are still waiting for assistance. My office is actively working with FEMA to identify solutions, advocate for those still in need, and ensure no one is left behind as our recovery continues. I appreciate FEMA's continued partnership and will keep fighting to secure every resource Guam deserves," Moylan said.
