The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) announced that completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will now be a graduation requirement for all high school seniors beginning with the Class of 2026. The policy follows the enactment of Guam Public Law 37-93 and applies to students enrolled in both GDOE and Academy Charter High Schools.
The FAFSA is a federal form that determines student eligibility for financial aid, including grants, loans, and work-study programs for college or career training. GDOE officials said the new requirement aims to ensure that graduating students are aware of available financial resources to support their postsecondary education and career goals.
Superintendent of Education Kenneth Erik K. Swanson said the change represents an opportunity to expand access to higher education. “Between all internal processes and our higher education partners, we are opening new doors and opportunities for our students,” Swanson said. GDOE’s School Counselor Teams and Principals will work directly with students and families to help them meet the new requirement.
The department is also partnering with the University of Guam (UOG) and Guam Community College (GCC) to provide on-site FAFSA assistance, computer access, and step-by-step application guidance. For more information, students and families are encouraged to contact their school counselor.
