Speaker of the Guam Legislature Frank F. Blas Jr. on Friday recognized the men and women of law enforcement for their service as the island observed National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on January 9.
Blas expressed gratitude to officers who “serve and protect the people of Guam with honor, courage and commitment,” acknowledging the personal sacrifices and risks they face in maintaining public safety.
“Today, we recognize the sacrifices made daily by our law enforcement officers who put themselves in harm’s way to keep our communities safe,” Blas said. “Their unwavering dedication, professionalism and service form the backbone of public safety and uphold the rule of law in our island.”
He cited long hours, difficult working conditions and the emotional toll of the profession as ongoing challenges, and emphasized the need for continued support through adequate resources, training and community partnerships.
“Our officers are more than uniforms — they are parents, neighbors and members of our community,” Blas said. “On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we honor not only their service, but also the families who stand behind them and share in their sacrifices.”
Blas reaffirmed the Legislature’s commitment to collaborating with law enforcement agencies to strengthen public safety, promote accountability and foster trust between officers and the communities they serve.
He encouraged residents to personally thank officers in recognition of the day.
“A simple expression of appreciation can go a long way in reminding them that their service is valued and respected,” he said.
National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is observed annually on Jan. 9 to recognize the role officers play in safeguarding communities across the nation.
