Astumbo Elementary School (ATES) has been recognized by the Guam Department of Education for a significant improvement in its annual public health inspection rating, rising from a 22/C last year to a 14/B this year. The announcement was made Thursday by GDOE officials, who credited the school’s renewed focus on sanitation and safety.
School officials said the eight-demerit reduction reflects the campus’ steadfast commitment to improving and maintaining strong health standards. GDOE emphasized that student health and safety remain at the core of decision-making at the school, noting that the improved results demonstrate the collective efforts of the school community.
Astumbo Elementary School Principal Jonathan Pilarca thanked faculty, staff and partner agencies for their contributions to the progress. He specifically recognized GDOE leadership, Guam Cleaning Masters, and the GDOE Facilities and Maintenance Division and Safety Office for their teamwork and continued support.
School officials said Astumbo Elementary will continue building on the improvements as it reinforces health and safety practices to ensure a clean, secure and supportive learning environment for students, families and employees.
