Astumbo Middle School and George Washington High School were named co-champions of the 2026 Silibrasion Mes CHamoru Bailan Taotao Tåno’ Competition, recognizing what organizers described as exceptional performances and a strong commitment to preserving and promoting CHamoru culture.
The competition, organized by the Guam Department of Education's CHamoru Studies and Special Projects Division, was held May 17 at the Agana Shopping Center and featured student performances celebrating CHamoru culture through dance.
"The Bailan Taotao Tåno’ Competition serves as an important platform for our students to connect with and celebrate CHamoru culture through the performing arts," CHamoru Studies Administrator Jimmy Teria said in a statement.
Teria commended participating students, teachers, dance instructors, families, judges, the Young Men's League of Guam and other supporters for contributing to the event's success.
"We commend all participating students, teachers, dance instructors, families, judges, the Young Men's League of Guam, and supporters whose dedication, hard work, and passion helped make this year's event a success," Teria said.
In addition to the overall championship honors, schools were recognized in elementary, middle and high school divisions.
P.C. Lujan Elementary School's Faneyåkan CHamoru Program earned first place in the elementary division, while Astumbo Middle School and George Washington High School took first place honors in the middle school and high school divisions, respectively.
Second-place awards went to J.M. Guerrero Elementary School, Jose Rios Middle School and Tiyan High School.
Agana Heights Elementary School received third-place honors.
The Guam Department of Education's CHamoru Studies and Special Projects Division thanked judges, participating schools, community partners, volunteers and supporters for their contributions to the event and to the continued preservation and promotion of CHamoru culture and traditions.
