All Guam Department of Education schools will remain closed on Monday, April 20, and will continue to be closed until further notice, according to the island’s largest government of Guam agency. This decision, announced on April 19, follows ongoing health, safety, and operational concerns at several campuses caused by Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
GDOE reports that several schools are currently without power or water, or are experiencing low water pressure and power fluctuations. Additionally, drinking water must undergo further assessment to ensure it is safe for students, GDOE said. Other critical concerns requiring attention before reopening include mold mitigation, comprehensive safety assessments, and the readiness of cafeteria food preparation areas.
Schools will remain closed until these conditions are fully addressed and campuses are cleared for reopening, GDOE said. All faculty and staff are still required to report to work during normal working hours.
