Guam Department of Education officials announced that Agueda I. Johnston Middle School received an “A” rating in its latest Public Health School Building Inspection, a sharp rise from its previous score of 28/C to 10/A.
Built in 1966 and described as one of Guam’s largest middle schools, the campus requires ongoing coordination to meet health and safety standards. The department said the new grade reflects measurable progress and a unified effort to improve conditions for students and staff.
Principal Agnes A. Guerrero credited the school community, saying, “The achievement belongs to the Agueda I. Johnston Middle School Community reflecting our unity and shared standard of excellence! Un Dang Ku'lo Na Si Yu'os Ma'ase to the faculty, staff, administration, parents, and our students for their unwavering commitment to maintain our campus to the highest standard where our students are able to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”
She also thanked partners including the Ordot Chalan Pago Mayor's Office, Sinajana Mayor's Office, Office of Senator Barnett, Office of the Attorney General, Office of the Public Defender Services Corporation and Guam Cleaning Masters for their support.
Deputy Superintendent Julie Ulloa-Heath said, “AIJMS’ improvement from a C to an A reflects strong leadership, teamwork, and accountability. This achievement demonstrates the school community’s commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment where students can thrive.”
Officials said the improvement resulted from collaboration among leadership, staff, students, facilities personnel and community partners.
