Attorney General Douglas Moylan will bring his “Protect One Another” outreach series to Yigo this Saturday, August 2, at 10 a.m. The event, to be held at the Yigo Senior Citizens Center, will offer residents the opportunity to engage directly with AG Moylan and a panel of prosecutors on topics including Guam’s Castle Doctrine, self-defense laws, and firearms safety.
This marks the fifth session in a growing series of village Q&As, following events in Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Malesso’, Tamuning, and Dededo. At the Dededo session, the Attorney General emphasized Guam residents’ right to defend themselves amid rising incidents of meth-related property and violent crimes. “The law presumes your response is justified,” Moylan told attendees, but stressed that “lethal force must always be the last resort.”
Saturday’s Yigo event will feature a breakdown of self-defense laws in plain terms, including explanations of when force is legally justified and the meaning of “curtilage”—the protected area surrounding a home. AG Investigator and Range Master William Salisbury will also conduct a live firearms safety demonstration and offer best practices for safe gun handling.
The event is supported by Yigo Mayor Frances Lizama and community member Joseph Arriola. Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and learn how Guam law protects their right to safety.
