Guåhan Sustainable Culture (GSC) and Fam Farms are calling on the community to take part in a volunteer day dedicated to food resilience and sustainability. The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon at the GSC Food Resiliency Hub, formerly Hamamoto Fruit World, in Windward Hills, Yona.
Organizers said the effort will prepare the site for the upcoming Fall Farmers Market on Oct. 25. Volunteers will help with activities such as building a fence for the pumpkin patch, sowing seeds for the fall season, and readying the farm for community use. The event is designed to bring people together in hands-on work that also promotes local agriculture and sustainability.
“This event is a great way to get your body moving while connecting with nature,” GSC said in its announcement, noting that the day’s activities directly support its mission to build a more food-secure future for Guam through education and community collaboration.
