United Airlines and island leaders celebrated the completion of United’s renovated Guam lobby, marking a major milestone ahead of the holiday and peak travel seasons. United officials said Thanksgiving travel already showed “a significant difference in efficiency and ease,” thanks to the airline’s new check-in technology and redesigned layout.
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero praised United’s 55-year partnership with Guam and Micronesia, saying modernized systems—such as self-tagged luggage and faster check-in—give travelers “a lot more confidence” and reflect a customer-centric approach. She also urged expanded routes, noting that increased service to Saipan, Taiwan and other regional destinations would boost economic growth.
Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio highlighted United’s role as a critical lifeline during disasters and the pandemic, when the airline transported vaccines and emergency supplies. He said the new fleet arriving in February—including upgraded interiors, increased medical-patient capabilities and more overhead bin space—will enhance comfort and support residents needing off-island care.
United leaders and partners from the Guam International Airport Authority and Guam Visitors Bureau emphasized the carrier’s long-term investment in the island and its workforce. Managing Director Sam Shinohara said the renovated lobby matches the experience at major U.S. hubs, with kiosks offering full service, 50% faster processing and a redesigned space that puts agents “shoulder to shoulder” with customers. The ceremony concluded with a ribbon cutting, officially opening the new lobby.
