Over 3,000 residents and visitors packed the streets of Pleasure Island on Sunday, August 3, for the debut of the Guam Visitors Bureau’s Tumon Night Market (TNM), marking a lively start to what is expected to become a weekly island tradition. The bustling event delivered a blend of cultural entertainment, retail therapy, and culinary delights—all in the name of community spirit and tourism recovery.
The night began with rhythmic energy from the Guahan Drum Circle and a traditional bendision by Para i Probechu’n i Taotao’ta (PIPIT), followed by welcoming remarks from Governor Lourdes Leon Guerrero. She thanked residents for showing the warmth and vibrancy of our island to visitors. GVB Chairman George Chiu and Senator Jesse Lujan, Chair of the Tourism Committee, echoed sentiments of gratitude, underscoring the importance of events like TNM to the island’s economy and cultural revitalization.
The market featured over 45 vendors, including food trucks, pop-up retail shops, and interactive booths. Businesses in the Dusit Place area joined in with sidewalk stalls and exclusive “Sunday Specials,” while The Sandcastle Guam hosted a beer garden, offering guests a relaxed view of the vibrant strip. “GVB is pleased with the overwhelming turnout,” said Acting GVB President Dr. Gerry Perez. “We are committed to making this a memorable experience for all.”
Organizers noted positive feedback from attendees and vendors alike, while also identifying parking and traffic flow as areas for improvement. Plans are already underway to enhance logistics and potentially introduce a shuttle service. The Tumon Night Market will continue every Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Pleasure Island district.
