Guam’s inaugural delegation made a strong international debut at the 2025 World Indigenous Traditional Games, earning podium finishes and showcasing the island’s culture on a global stage. Team Guam captured second place in the women’s event and third place in the Traditional Music and Dance category.
The delegation competed across a broad range of disciplines, including traditional archery, wrestling, music and dance, road running, weight carrying, and tug-of-war. The team featured both emerging young practitioners and seasoned cultural athletes, each carrying the strength, heritage and spirit of the CHamoru people.
More than 300 athletes from indigenous communities worldwide gathered in Kaohsiung for this year’s games. The event brought together competitors from Palau, Tuvalu, the Marshall Islands, Guatemala, New Zealand, Japan, Guam, Hawai‘i, the Northern Mariana Islands, Canada and the Philippines, fostering international cultural exchange and athletic excellence.
For Team Guam, the competition marked not only a successful debut but also a significant step in elevating CHamoru traditions on a global platform. Their performance underscored the island’s cultural resilience and growing presence in indigenous sports.
